Usage of Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) also commonly known as drones has been rapidly increasing across a range of commercial purposes, including infrastructure, agriculture, entertainment, transportation, geospatial mapping, security and emergency response etc.
The Government of India has been working to establish a world - leading drone eco system in India to support safe, efficient and secure access to the Indian airspace by millions of drones. The release of Drone Rules 2021 has made it possible to establish a global certification and accreditation framework for drones. QCI has been authorized by DGCA to develop and operate a Certification scheme for UAS as per the applicable rules, regulations and procedures from time to time.

National Test House (NR) as Certification Body for UAS
During the glorious 111 years since its inception in 1912, NTH has dedicated its scientific and quality assessment services to various nation building projects such as bridges, highways, airport, steel plants, refineries, power plants and railway projects. NTH is now poised to expand further during this Amrit Kaal
by offering services in drone sector which is growing exponentially. As a part of this, National Test House (NR) has entered into Certification Body services under CS for UAS. NTH (NR) has obtained provisional approval from Quality Council of India(QCI) as Certification Body on 22nd December 2023 to start Type Certification of UAS.
Source of Funds: NTH, being a Central Government Laboratory under administrative control of Department of Consumer Affairs, the financial resources for CB operations of NTH(NR), Ghaziabad are completely through budget allocations.
